Work4 Labs in 2011: A Retrospective
Looking back to what seemed like just yesterday, in December 2010 the Work4 Labs team participated in the startup competition at LeWeb, one of the world’s premier tech events. To much embarrassment, our product demo crashed a few minutes into the presentation. What a start!
As it turned out, that rough beginning was the opening act to a groundbreaking year for Work4 Labs, as well as a year of incredible changes in the social media and online recruiting spaces. At the onset of 2011 Facebook had around 600 million users and by the end of it the number would reach to over 850 million, growing at a rate of 7 users/second.
Rather than being dominated by a particular demographic group, as is commonly misconceived, Facebook had long ago became the center of the online lives of 1/7 of the world’s population. This last year alone Facebook made many professionally-oriented changes, particularly in revamping their profile and around the constantly-evolving timeline.
As Facebook’s size, user engagement, and user data has grown rapidly, recruiters have taken notice: a reported 91% are now using Facebook along with other social networking sites to screen candidates.
At Work4 Labs we’ve been at the forefront of helping companies and universities worldwide in attracting, engaging, and hiring talent within Facebook. Our range of clients have seen exceptional successes, such as Hard Rock Cafe hiring 120 people in 4 weeks through Facebook, or Capgemini posting job ads on Facebook 4 senior financial service professionals.
Some of the highlights that have occurred over our exciting past year have included being honored with the 2011 Onrec Recruiting Award for Excellence in Social Recruitment and co-sponsoring our very first #truSanFran conference in October.
2011 was indeed a big year for us and at the risk of using an old cliché, it feels like we’re just getting started. The company has grown from 2 to more than 30 employees, and we’ve expanded from a tiny coworking space to an office of our own, soon to be an even bigger office in the wonderfully innovative city of San Francisco. The team has been hard at work on some exciting product developments and we can’t wait to share with you what we’ve been up to.
To our customers, friends, partners, and team members, thanks for an incredible year. Here’s to a prosperous 2012.
